Music is both a sacred and entirely subjective form. Much like art it will always be bound to a spectrum of both supporters and critics, judging each track to the last detail. It has become extremely difficult to find artists that can tick all the boxes musically, whilst still offering up something unique and not straight out of a mould.
Kid Cupid take on a new form, ticking all those boxes. Working together rich London Grammar and CHVRCHES influences, it’s clear that the indie quartet have dabbled with a variety of sounds and instruments, honing their style ever more distinctively towards the sound it represents today. It’s hard to believe that the four band members only joined forces a year ago.
‘Siren’, the latest single from Kid Cupid (Out 3rd June) offers angelic harmonizing which parallels effortlessly with the melancholic lyrics, reminiscent of troubled relationships and the reflection of the situation at hand. To have a track produced by the band themselves lets the listener in on the process of the production at a far more intimate level. Its rough and ready sound just screams a new-kid-on-the-block attitude that cannot be faulted.
The video is just as gripping as the track itself. Its mega urban style just screams all things Shoreditch, with corrugated iron, graffiti and fluffy white clouds becoming the backdrop for the four-piece. There is a lot to be said about the walking and running throughout the video. Clearly a fit and healthy bunch, they tell us “By the end of the shoot I think we all lost about a stone in weight…there was a lot of running! As well as scared dog walkers as we charged towards them in the middle of the night. We’re very excited to introduce our video and Kid Cupid to the world, we hope you enjoy!”
But it doesn’t stop there. Remixes by the likes of Rudy and Bless Elska intertwine New Order vibes which make for two very different takes on the track, whilst both accentuating the smooth sound of indie-pop electronic music.
‘Siren’ is the lead track taken from their forth-coming EP, and it will be available for sale and download everywhere 3rd June 2016 and they are the ones to watch.
