25 years after forming, blink 182 prove they are still a force to be reckoned with in the world of punk rock.
a lively yorkshire crowd welcomed the american three piece to leeds as they played the third date of their huge uk arena tour.
the stranger things theme song played before a large curtain dropped and the band emerged from behind. the first three songs set the tone for the evening, ‘feeling this’, ‘the rock show’ and ‘cynical’ all being from three different albums spanning the band’s quarter of a century history.
all three members put on an energetic performance with front men Hoppus and Skiba batting the vocals to and from one another while drummer, Barker, gave encouragement from a raised platform behind.
there was something for everyone in the 22 song set. along with many songs from new album, california, which celebrated its first birthday last week, the band played a handful of old classics. ‘I miss you’ slowed the pace down mid set, a moment for the standing crowd to catch a quick breath before things gained pace again with ‘dumpweed’ and ‘she’s out of her mind’ following shortly afterwards.
fan favourites ‘all the small things’ and ‘dammit’ made for a fitting encore. two of the band’s most popular songs and quite likely the tracks that got many fans into the band some time ago played as confetti rained down. a great end to an enjoyable evening.
