With Stormzy in tow, Jorja Smith breaks through and also makes a strong case for being the next James Bond?
Jorja Smith is a big deal. After winning the prestigious BRITs Critic’s Choice Award this year (Adele has won it. So has Sam Smith and, uh, Jessie J), she makes a startling case for stardom on the cinematic cut for her latest single, ‘Let Me Down,’ which features ya boy Stormzy.
The visual, shot in Ukraine, casts Smith as a hit-woman on the hunt for a handsome ballet dancer. Beautiful, evocative and thrilling, the video takes it’s cues from Black Swan and Atomic Blonde.
The track itself is stunning; subverting expectations for the collaboration on grime-esque banger for a tender piano-led ballad that shines a light on Smith’s beautiful vocals and Stormzy’s evocative wordplay.
Smith has a big year ahead of her – with a UK tour this February, a second tour of the US and her debut appearance at Coachella.
