This Is Our Culture: Matty Cardarople

HQ /
Dec 18, 2017 / Film & TV

Born and raised in Exeter, New Hampshire, Matty Cardarople always wanted to be an entertainer.

After moving to LA to study at The Beverly Hills Playhouse, the actor was eventually discovered by the Wilson brothers – Owen and Luke – who launched his career with roles in both Blonde Ambition and Drillbit Taylor. Now, you can find the 34-year-old actor in, well, pretty much everything.

From a teenage arcade employee in Stranger Things 2 to a sceptical security guard in the excellent Logan Lucky – and, lest us we forget, his memorable turn as the Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender in A Series of Unfortunate Events – Cardarople is a chameleon. With the second series of the latter scheduled to drop early next year, we caught up with the actor for the lowdown on his cultural picks.

Favourite on-screen performance:

Peter Sellers in Being There. He’s so subtle yet hilarious in that movie. It is hands down my fave! My most favorite recent performance is Andre Hyland’s in the movie The 4th.

Filmmaker:

Wes Anderson.

A city you’d love to live in:

Somewhere in New Hampshire, in the forest. I grew up in a long cabin so I have an affinity for nature.

Best advice you ever received:

“You’re enough”, from an actor and teacher I admire named Tyler Poelle.

Moment your most proud of:

Getting married to my gorgeous and amazing wife Lauren.

Favourite food:

Pizza.

Favourite musician/band:

Joy Division.

Something you never leave the house without:

A clear mind to take on new adventures  – and my phone.
