You’re gonna want to be Rex Orange County’s mate.
The 18-year-old artist is back with Best Friend, another technicolour confessional in which young Rex (real name Alex O’Connor) narrates the trials and tribulations of the dreaded friend zone. Much like previous single Uno, the track is mischievous hybrid; it’s clean cut, but still rooted in the bedroom sounds of the singer-songwriter’s debut LP bcos u will never b free.
Best Friend sees Rex Orange County continuing to fly the flag as one of British music’s most interesting young voices. He’s a purveyor of the mundane, taking the insignificant and feeding it into narratives of reckless, wistful youth. He’s an observer, a story teller – and he’s never sounded better.
