Sarah Midkiff reflects on her interview with one of the brightest talents in pop.
When I first started researching Madison and her music for our interview, I didn’t think I was familiar with her music. I quickly realised that I remembered hearing about Justin Bieber sharing the link to a young singer years ago. I had seen her cover of “At Last” by Etta James. Once I made the connection, I was excited to see what she had gotten up to since the world first heard the name Madison Beer.
The interview itself was very laid back, which is how I try to keep all my interviews. I want them to feel like an interesting conversation rather than a formal Q&A. Madison lit up right away when I asked her about the song “Tyler Durden.” Her manager had sent me a privated link to her EP beforehand, and it immediately stood out to me. Hands down my favourite song on the EP. Once we connected over that, the interview flew by.
Every interview is different, but I know right away when I connect with a person. It’s that moment when everything clicks and you feel like you have entered a different, much more personal conversation. Talking about “Fight Club” was our connecting moment.
