Sykes are an electro-pop three-piece hailing from South of the river. On the spectrum of influence, you can probably find them somewhere in between Clean Bandit and Chrvches – scholars in infectious, effervescent pop music, fronted by an impressive female vocalist. Glimmer is the latest of these animated cuts, a lively, atmospheric track that revels in the upbeat.

Within Glimmer’s three minute duration, Sykes are able to effectively showcase their musical versatility. Taking elements of dream-pop, electronica and nu-R&B, the band allow the track to flourish in technicolour – it’s a unique, eclectic mixture of sounds, that sees vocalist and keyboard player Julia Sykes in a playful mood.

I would crawl towards something I like / I know I want it but the ink’s still running / I would hold onto stories untold / I was sick of nobody’  she informs, during the song’s opening verse. Glimmer is unapologetic in its  replayability; balancing simple melodies with a killer hook to devastating effect.

With festival performances at Glastonbury and Bestival already under their belt and a slot on the Vans Warped Tour across the United States this summer, Sykes are a young band moving in the right direction – and fast.
