This Is Our Culture: Sigala

Sigala has some right old bangers

And you’ve definitely heard of them. Since breaking out with the Jackson 5-sampling ‘Easy Love,’ in 2015, Sigala (or, as he goes when he’s not DJing, plain old Bruce) has been a busy little bee, with a discography of singles that crackle and simmer with the sound of the summer.

His latest, ‘Lullaby,’ featuring the effervescent Paloma Faith, and is no exception, becoming his 6th UK top 10 on the way to its complete domination of UK commercial radio.

Currently in Ibiza for the #SummerofSigala, a listening party for his upcoming album, Brighter Days, set to be released this September 21st.

But for now, this is Sigala. This is his culture.

1. ‘Lullaby’

My new single featuring Paloma Faith, this track was started 2 years ago and I’m so glad it’s finally out. It’s amazing how an idea can grow organically over such a long amount of time, it’s hardly even the same track I started all that time ago.

2. Collaboration

Collabs are so important to me, it’s the chance to bring people together and make music. It’s also the chance to explore and combine different tastes and sounds in one track, or do something I wouldn’t usually be able to do as Sigala”

3. First Album

It was called ‘The Best Ibiza Anthems Ever” and I bought it in 2001. It was kind of my first introduction to Dance music, and featured my favourite artist at the time, the Basement Jaxx. 16 years later, I moved into the Basement Jaxx Studio in London when they moved out, weird how things work out like that.

4. Pop Music

Any music can technically be labeled as ‘Pop Music’ if enough people like it. Most of the Pop Music genres we hear on commercial Radio started as some underground genre and grew to become mainstream music.

5. Favourite City

New York, I’ve only been there twice but it just feels like home.

6. Best Advice

“Do what makes you happy”

7. Tour Essentials

If I have an early flight I always bring my trusty Neck Pillow, I never used to be able to nap but touring has taught me how valuable a quick nap can be when the schedule is hectic.

8. Legacy

I see a legacy as something an influential or innovative person leaves behind when they pass away. Something which changes the world for the better

Sigala’s new album Brighter Days will be released on September 21st.
