All hail. Kendrick Lamar is back with more new music and a video to show for it.
‘Humble’ is a hard-hitting declaration of divinity, with the Compton rapper commanding listeners to “sit down, be humble” as he raps freely and with monotonic force. It’s a departure from the jazz-funk of To Pimp A Butterfly, relying on a single piano riff and 808 beat.
The video, directed by Dave Meyers and the Little Homies, is an abundance of striking imagery; Kendrick is shown dressed in papal robes, recreating the last supper, rapping with his head on fire, hitting golf balls from a car roof and speaking in a sea of hidden black faces.
The track looks set to feature on Kendrick’s forthcoming untitled album. It is expected to be released on April 7th.
