Filmatique’s Post-Soviet Cinema Series has shared its second release, True Noon.
Nosir Saidev’s Rotterdam Competition debut feature is the first film to have been produced by the Tajik film industry in 18 years. It follows the life of Nilufur, a young woman near the border between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, whose life is thrown into chaos when soldiers place mines in between her and her new husband’s villages.
With a haunting nuance, the film explores the consequences of borders in the modern world, as well as holding a mirror to the erratic nature of government-citizen relations.
Watch the film here. You have to sign up for a free trial – but we promise it’s worth it.
