Afropop star Adekunle Gold teams up with Lucky Daye to revive a biblical love story in an exclusive studio session.
Adekunle Gold made a name for himself with a hit single ‘Sade’, a cover of One Direction’s ‘Story Of My Life’. Ever since, he hasn’t stopped making ruckus on a Nigerian scene, from putting out three albums so far to dabbling in graphic design for the YBNL label or Lil Kesh. Gold’s laidback beats broke through his homeland’s borders to invade the international R&B playlist and steal the spotlight with his urban highlife.
In 2021, Adekunle is a busy bee. Freshly after collaborating with various artists including MHD, Deja and Sun El-Musician, he has invited New Orleans four-time Grammy nominee Lucky Daye to add some extra soulful heat to his already sizzling hot new single, ‘Sinner’. The story is inspired by the biblical tale of King David and Bathsheba’s forbidden affair, where the man seduces the object of his desires and kills her husband. Luckily Gold’s interpretation is more of a subtle and less blood-stained nature, prioritising affections’ mutually addictive aspects.
In an official video for it, Gold features his wife Simi so it becomes a beautiful celebration of love between the Afropop power couple. “Sinner is all about the duality of true love. Love is a powerful thing, it can be good, it can be intense, but most importantly, it is always real,” AG says on the meaning of the song.
We got invited behind the scenes, and under the sheets, of their relationship as quiet witnesses to their tender kisses and fooling around in summery settings. ‘Loving you be my greatest sin/Said I was done but see I’m here,’ we hear as the background to this public display of heated romance. If every superstar pairing would monetize on marriage in AG’s fashion, we wouldn’t mind becoming voyeurs for a day or two.
For those craving some more Adekunle Gold x Lucky Daye content, we present tmrw exclusive studio session where both artists sing their hearts out in intimate settings. If you vibe with AG’s musical sensibility in ‘Sinner’, there’s a whole new album coming out later this summer via Platoon. It will be a sin not to get it.
