Norwegian pop sensation SKAAR has kept us ‘Waiting’, but new track 'Say Something Now' teases that it will be worth it.

With two Spellemanprisen nominations – or Norwegian Grammys to us anglophone – SKAAR’s 2021 is off to a stellar start. Waiting on the new collection of music to come from SKAAR, arriving on 16th April, in the meantime, we caught up with the Scandi-star to find out about her music, memories, and missions.

‘Waiting’ is a new project from the 22-year-old that pares back her usual alt-pop style to a more intimate, acoustic polish. SKAAR explains: “It’s a collection of songs that I’ve written for the past years, where one of them actually dates back to when I was 15 sitting on the toilet in my parent’s basement on Christmas eve because I was so heartbroken. It’s basically the story of me going from one thing to another – teenager to grown up, and all the relationships with friends, family and boyfriends that has come and gone. Kind of emotional to be honest!”

In an endearingly modest way, SKAAR relays that the nominations came as such a shock. “In 2020 I was in my own little bubble called «my brain» and I didn’t really notice anyone noticing me or my music. So being nominated for not only one but TWO Norwegian Grammy’s after such a shitty year really means a lot!!”

Her voice is reminiscent of early Birdy, with a soft yet innately powerful tone. Her ability to navigate through different genres and styles with ease is impressive and lends a sagacious rhythm to her music. ‘Say Something Now’ is the first track to have been released from the upcoming collection and it certainly is setting up a scorcher. What do you envision the future of music to look like?

I don’t know to be honest… Hopefully not too different from what it was before corona! I’m crossing my fingers and toes!!!

If you could collaborate with any musician in the future, who would it be and why?

Chris Martin without a doubt! Coldplay has always been my biggest inspiration, and they still are. Think we would be a really dynamic duo!!

Where would be your dream venue to play?

Hmm… Right now, I just want to play. Anywhere!! Could play in someone’s backyard with awful sound and I would love it, haha!!

Where do you hope to be in the next year?

The next 5 years?

Playing even more concerts, hopefully around the world <3
