FACING FORWARD WITH
ASH OLSEN

Looking to the future with Norway's rulebreaking rapper you need to know.

At just 22-years-old, Ash Olsen is already making waves with her boundary-breaking rap. Hailing from Norway, raised on a rural farm, Ash found her sound back in her childhood bedroom and hasn’t looked back since. Inspired by her countryside upbringing, the vibrant rapper played with lyrics and melodies to capture her unique perspective. After pressing play on Tupac’s ‘Only God Can Judge Me’ her life changed, so she went home, rapped along to it on YouTube, and she hasn’t looked back since.

Dropping ‘Dat Thing Like Me’ last year, Ash was ready to show the world what she’s made of, and treated us with her EP ASHY. We caught up with Ash Olsen to find out how she got to here and take a look at what’s coming up next…

Congrats on ‘Dat Thing Like Me’, tell me a bit about the track?

Thank u! The song is very playful and has a fun, but confident taste to it, and it was a lotta fun to make it for sure. I made it together with Maltinho and it was just a really good session, and everything came out naturally. Check out the music video to get the vibe!

What do you hope people take away from your EP Ashy?

I hope they got a good first look at who I am as an artist, and that they fuck with it. Also hope they have as much fun listening to it as I had making it. I feel it’s a nice introduction to my artistic universe, and you might get a little surprised when the upcoming project drops, and I kinda like that.

What do you envision the future of music to look like?

I have no idea… I feel like the game changes everyday so it’s very hard to say, but I’m here for the ride. At the end of the day, I always make what I feel is right, and I´ll always continue to do so.

What is one change you’d love to make to the industry?

I wish that pure talent was enough to go big. I love the fact that you can “invite” listeners into your universe through social media and you are able to connect with people so easily, but I’m not the biggest fan of how music is being pushed through social media.

If you could collaborate with any musician in the future, who would it be and why?

Right now I’d love to work with The Kid LAROI because he’s really fucking good!

Where would be your dream venue to play?

O2 Arena would be fun!

Who are you betting on for future stardom?

The ones who are sitting in their room right now working in silence, and perfecting their craft. I’m rooting for y’all. Keep grinding and eventually, everything will fall into place.

Where do you hope to be in the next year?

Hopefully, I’m out travelling, playing gigs, and working my ass off. Touring around the world in a year’s time with my music would be nice!

The next 5 years?

Who knows…

Press play on Ash Olsen’s ASHY below now…
