bbno$ [baby-no-money] took the world by storm with last year’s album eat ya veggies. It convinced 1.6 million fans to follow the star on TikTok and high-rocket the streams to over one billion. Now, the number of connoisseurs of his freaky creative products grow day by day. Aware of the noise, in the next upcoming project, he gives us an enigmatic ultimatum under the title of bag or die.
If you haven’t dug into the bbno$ musical cuisine yet, think of it as a hangover cure that Tommy Cash and Partiboi69’s created on a five-day bender filled with mind-blowing escapades and kooky beats. While the artist flies high solo, his joined efforts are a double blast. He scored with the audience and critics for ‘edamame’ featuring 88Rising’s Rick Brian and ‘yoga’ featuring Rebecca Black.
After a series of fortunate events, the Vancouver rapper came back to satisfy our growing desires for some hilarious bangers. A single ‘mathematics’ and the newest follow-up ‘piccolo’, released via bbno$’s label in partnership with AWAL, are the first taste of music from bag or die. ‘piccolo’ is a heavyweight contender in the pool of his releases, and overflowing with witty lyrics running on an infectious rhythm. The master of self-satire and ridiculous humour spits bars on the art of picking up a girl and getting your cockiness to rule over the brains. In a video, directed by his long-time collaborator, Shiraz, he flexed his body double’s glowing muscles while boogying in the crowd of the protein-friendly bodybuilders. bbno$ wouldn’t be himself if, in the middle of the lifting madness, he didn’t find a spare second to fool around and flirt with a fitter-than-him love interest. It screams charisma.
bbno$ is a wanted man, about to release a new record and hit the road. He’ll play Nameless, Reading and Leeds Festival, in addition to Canadian and European dates. We catch him for a chat about his latest moves and the future of the music industry, join on in…
The usual from a bbno$ project, most of it is incredibly upbeat and fun. Very positive music. I am really quite proud of this one. Banger after banger after banger the whole way through haha. I just want to keep making music, connecting with audiences and growing as an artist.
I mean soon enough music is going to literally be like beeps and bloops at this rate, TikTok is shaping listenership. It’s faster with more sound bites and hooks. R2d2 ’bout to make the anthem of 2069 lol.
I am not really too intertwined in the industry to make a really good call on this. I do think independence is becoming ever more viable in an industry that has been historically run by goliaths for instance within the major label system. I do feel the whole industry should be a little bit fairer in some regards. There is so much good music out there. People now have a chance to hear more artists thru new platforms, which is cool. Perhaps radio should be completely abolished because it’s an utterly stupid waste of money and is just an archaic method of payola but that’s just my take.
I really like Slowthai! He dapped me up at Coachella that was cool. He makes great music and seems like a unbelievably nice guy. Dua Lipa as well, she’s beautiful and really talented.
Not sure, I don’t really care that much, more people in a venue matter more to me than the venues I have played. It’s about connecting with the audience, the size of the venue doesn’t matter as much as the people and energy in the room.
PinkPantheress is great! I’m not sure I don’t listen to too much music to be completely honest.
Having fun. Playing music.
Hopefully having more fun.
