JONES’ new single ‘Around’ is a hotpot of soothing soul.
The sweet, soul stylings of JONES are back and better than ever. Her latest single ‘Around’ is smooth and honeyed and we can’t wait for what is next. Featuring Nardeydey, a big name in the New Jazz scene, bringing a modernist-jazz feel to the record which transports us into a fresh and crisp new era.
Easy listening is, of course, easier said than done, but ‘Around’ really is a tonic for the soul. A combination of laidback instrumentation and JONES’ breathy vocals, the track oozes silky sensuality. With the introduction of Nardeydey’s guitar, the song takes us on a genre exploration, with clear influences from folk, soul, Afrobeats and electro-pop music.
As the balmy weather and hazy days of summer take over our thoughts, allow yourself to be transported somewhere cooler, in every sense of the word.
What do you envision the future of music to look like?
I think that there will continue to be more and more people that get to put out their artist project and have access to be played on streaming platforms with the rise of technologies like TikTok allowing people to create their own fanbases from their bedrooms. I think new genres will emerge, and people will consume music less in the form of albums and EPs but more as singles where they cannot necessarily recall who the actual artist is. I think there will always be global superstars, but more and more small indie artists will have a chance to be heard.
What is one change you’d love to make to the industry?
This will never happen – but part of me wishes that social media would disappear and that musicians/artists/producers could be protected from the pressures of it…
If you could collaborate with any musician in the future, who would it be and why?
My dream collaborator would be Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, I think his sound is so unique and remain a huge fan of his.
Where would be your dream venue to play?
I’d love to play in an amphitheatre somewhere, I always thought they looked quite magical…
Who are you betting on for future stardom?
I have no idea! Probably someone emerging out of TikTok.
Where do you hope to be in the next year?
Completely out of lockdown, healthy, happy and surrounded by loved ones. Enjoying writing music and hopefully sharing that with others in some sort of live format.
The next 5 years?
Who knows?! Maybe moving to another country.
