Multi-hyphenate Joseph Reuben brings us along to his ‘Dreamland’.

The latest release from Joseph Reuben is heady and redolent, both lyrically and sonically. The evocation of a dreamscape or utopian land combined with the powerful strings, falsetto chorus, and rhythmic beats, all culminate in cinematic intensity.

Reuben’s life also follows a similar cinematic arc, as just when he was starting to make tracks in the music industry, he required emergency surgery that threatened his ability to ever sing again. His music prowess wasn’t lost as he channelled this energy into composing scores for film, television, theatre, and ballet, whilst still battling vocal rehabilitation. We are now blessed with two tracks from Reuben as he is settling back into the driver’s seat.

The impact and emotion that translates freely through his music is reminiscent of James Blake with a slightly more poppy overtone. We spoke to Reuben to find out what he imagines his future to look like and what he hopes will be different in the future of the music industry.

What do you envision the future of music to look like?

Just like fashion, music constantly nods and recycles styles of the past. But when using the latest technology, it often breathes new life into the music and then that in turn inspires others. It’s a constant evolutionary process as by just adding one or two new ideas into the mix -we then get a ‘new sound’. Who knows what the future will look like but it’s exciting to see it constantly evolve...

“I believe there is something out there for everyone, it’s just about connecting the music with those people that would resonate with it.“

What is one change you’d love to make to the industry?

It can be very tough for musicians to cut through all of the noise and Although I don’t yet have the answer, I’d like to make it easier to get music directly to the fans. I believe there is something out there for everyone, it’s just about connecting the music with those people that would resonate with it.

If you could collaborate with any musician in the future, who would it be and why?

Lana Del Rey – We would sound pretty awesome together. We both seem to be inspired by similar eras and so I think our creative vision would be aligned.

Where would be your dream venue to play?

Somewhere deep in the Sahara Desert or on the moon.

Who are you betting on for future stardom?

My brothers, musician & singer songwriter David King Reuben and producer & rapper Danny Reuben.

Where do you hope to be in the next year?

To have a lot more music released in the world, be playing many more shows and having my album out.

The next 5 years?

Touring the world with my music with full symphony orchestra, collaborating with other artists on my next albums, performing on SNL, launching my clothing / design label and scoring more film / tv projects with my production company ‘Cinemax Studios’
