FACING FORWARD WITH
JP SAXE

Looking to the future with the Canadian singer-songwriter you need to know.

Vulnerable, thoughtful and introspective, JP Saxe knows how to write a song. Born and raised in Toronto, the Canadian musician has been creating uniquely sensitive tracks since 2017, but it was his 2020 collaboration with his girlfriend and tmrw favourite Julia Michaels that JP was catching everybody’s eye. The viral success of their collab ‘If The World Was Ending’ celebrated the power of love above all else, and was as vital a message then as it is now.

Dropping his first album Dangerous Levels of Introspection last June, JP Saxe delved deep into himself, reflecting on love, life, loss and everything in between. A raw, personal debut, the album shows both his delicate songwriting ability with his bold honesty, and celebrates just what it means to be a human living and loving in our modern world.

We ask the singer songwriter to take a look into the future for our FACING FORWARD series and catch up on all things JP Saxe…

Congrats on ‘Soft Landing’, tell me a bit about the track?

Thank you, the song is about a moment where it kind of feels like everything is about to go to shit and you’re not really sure if there’s anything you can do about it anymore, so you’re just hoping for the best and praying for a soft landing.

What do you hope people take away from the THE DELUXE EDITION: DANGEROUS LEVELS OF INTROSPECTION?

I hope they find some sort of deepened relationship with a part of themselves that a song helped them get to a little bit more intimately.

What do you envision the future of music to look like?

I have no idea.. ha ha.. maybe some NFT transferred into our brain. I just hope people keep it real and keep playing instruments.

What is one change you’d love to make to the industry?

I think Lianne La Havas should be a thousand times more famous.

If you could collaborate with any musician in the future, who would it be and why?

In no particular order….Beyonce, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Adele… I don’t think any of these need an explanation why 🙂

Where would be your dream venue to play?

Massey Hall, in Toronto, when I was a kid I used to sneak up the fire escape with my friends… so it will be a fun full circle moment when I get to play at that venue that I used to sit at as a 13-year-old and dream about playing it..

Who are you betting on for future stardom?

I think it’s too late for Holly Humberstone to be a hot take..but her anyway!

Where do you hope to be in the next year?

I want to travel a lot of South America.. in fact a lot of the world as I would like to compensate for the last two years so I’d like to visit as many places as possible.

The next 5 years?

Arenas would be fucking cool!
