You’ll recognise the name from somewhere in your teenage memory bank. A fuzzy recollection of a song that you had on repeat back in the summer of 2013. You probably still remember all of the words to ‘Riptide’ but now Vance Joy is back to grace us with his latest release ‘Missing Piece’ and it is just as toe-tappingly catchy as his former glory tune.
Written throughout the Covid pandemic with songwriter Joel Little, the lyrics tap into a feeling of separation. “’Missing Piece’ is a song about being separated from someone you love,” Joy says. “It can be tough but when what you have is good you know that these separations are just small stuff; you’re both holding the line. It’s about the stillness you find when you are together.” The leitmotif of longing for a significant other has been at the forefront of most of our minds over the past months and Joy has vocalised these sentiments in his upbeat pop-rock way. Listen to the new track below and feel Vance Joy restore that ‘Missing Piece’.
Geez I have no idea – I feel like it’ll involve more avenues to getting your music heard as we’re seeing with YouTube and TikTok which are both huge.
I’d love to write with Mark Ronson – because I love a lot of his stuff and ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’ that he wrote with Miley is such a tune.
This spa retreat place I heard about on the west coast of America somewhere near Big Sur. I heard it has a beautiful venue where artists come to play acoustic shows.
I hope to be in Barcelona and exploring the surrounding areas.
I hope to have built a magic feeling home somewhere by then.
