Checking back in with our tmrw alum is always great, especially when they are smashing it like Willie Jones.
In this time of need for nostalgia and friendly faces, we checked back in with one of our past cover stars Willie Jones to chat about his new single and what he hopes to get up to in the next few years. His latest single ‘Down by the Riverside’ is a certified summer bop that is set to pop off in the warmer weeks to come. Written by Jones, Josh Logan, and Jason Afable, the anthem finds Jones embracing his Deep South Louisiana roots.
“This song is straight Louisiana jambalaya: Swampy, Sexy and drippin’ all over the floor,” says Jones. “Jason, Josh and I have a great chemistry and this one hits hard from that first harmonica lick and keeps you greasy ‘til the end.” A jambalaya of energy, passion, and good ole Southern charm. Be sure to read on and absorb some of Jones’ infectious positivity, but before you do, pause whatever you are listening to and stream ‘Down by the Riverside’.
What do you envision the future of music to look like?
Genre-less. My playlists have all types of music and I know this TikTok generation is all over the place too. And that’s good. Make music that moves people and everyone wins.
If you could collaborate with any musician in the future, who would it be and why?
I’m still sticking with Kanye or Kacey Musgraves. For Ye, I’d just want to kick it with a genius. See what sonics he’d have in mind for someone like me and challenge me to step my game up to the next level. For Kacey, she’s just her own individual and brave to say ‘this is who I am, take it or leave it.’ That’s hard to do sometimes.
Where would be your dream venue to play?
I used to say Madison Square Garden or Wembley but honestly, give me a stage anywhere. I feed off that energy and didn’t realize how much until it was gone. So yeah, let’s get those lights on and turn up my mic, I’m ready.
Where do you hope to be in the next year?
In the coolest tour bus stateside and getting stamps on the passport for some shows around the world. UK and Europe, let’s go already!
The next 5 years?
If I make smart moves everyday, five years from now I can’t even imagine. During Covid- that PAUSE button was tough to deal with. I just have to think about right now and know God is putting me on the right path. And stadiums, definitely stadiums 🙂
