The 18-year-old singer-songwriter and producer's new single 'Hostage' pairs trippy beats with revealing lyrics.
Adam Rom is beginning 2020 by getting something off of his chest in new electronic-pop single “Hostage,” out today (Feb. 7).
“I should be the one to hold you,” Rom sings, weaving seamlessly in and out of his higher register. “I can’t believe I never told you / Had a chance and I lost it / Now it’s holding me hostage / So let me be the one / I should be the one to hold you.”
“I wrote this song with the sick Futurecut and Ruxley,” Rom said. “It was the second song we wrote of the day. The first one didn’t feel right, but then I pulled up the beat for ‘Hostage,’ and we all knew we had to write something to it. It sort of all fell into place within a few hours, and I walked away from the session knowing I had something really special.”
“This song signifies the start of the next chapter to me as an artist,” the South Londoner wrote on Instagram, and it’s certainly a solid start.
Just as Rom is replaying could-have, should-have, would-have moments in his head throughout the track, listeners will likely finish hearing “Hostage” for the first time compelled to hit play again.
