The music video was shot in Botany Bay on a cloudy day. It stars Moss along with a few dancers who are dressed in minimalistic, faded colours. As Moss sings and pours his heart out, the dancers bring the story of the song to life by portraying the lyrics to the viewers.
From Moss’ broody expressions and soft, yet powerful vocals to the stylised synchrony of the dancers, the music video is perfect for the emotional track. The opening scene of the waves crashing onto the shore while the camera pans out from above lures viewers in with the beautiful visuals and keeps them watching until the end.
“The video really captures the emotion of the song, strength and honesty, with dancers personifying parts of myself, showing that inner conflict,” Kena says about the music video. “The ocean represents the powerful and swelling depths of emotion.”
Vulnerable with his emotions and his art, it’s essential for Kena to be relatable for his listeners. He’s been releasing singles since 2016 with “Begging” being a part of a three-track EP titled Begging that dropped this year. One of the songs is a collaboration with Miraa May and Buddy called “You & Me,” while the last track is a slowed-down tune called “New Start” that highlights Kena’s vocals.
The single was co-written and co-produced by Bastille’s Dan Smith along with Grammy-nominated and Brit award-winning producer, Mark Crew. With a hint of pop, this soulful track came soon after Kena announced his UK tour, including a show at London’s Courtyard on December 12th. He’ll also be playing Manchester, Leeds, and Glasgow throughout early December, so be sure to get tickets and stream “Begging.”
