Naim is releasing her new song titled "How Will I Know" exclusively with tmrw this morning (Jan. 24).
Yael Naim has revealed the first glimpse into her fourth album NightSongs due out on March 20. Lead single “How Will I Know” fits the album’s title, as it sounds like a somber lullaby.
The song’s accompanying video finds Naim seated alone at a piano in Paris’ Studio Ferber. Mysterious, luring notes are eventually met by the French-Israeli singer-songwriter’s sharp vocals.
Her opening lyrics quickly absolve any initial questions listeners might have had: “Years after you’ve gone I’m feeling fine and I fight to be strong / But when I’m laughing it’s not quite the same.”
But then the chorus brings Naim’s own uncertainty to the forefront: “So how will I know / Right from the start / How will I know / Healing my heart.”
Naim is singing from acute experience, making for a confident delivery. “How Will I Know” dips a toe into the rabbit hole of loss and love NightSongs will explore. The album’s material was inspired by her father’s death and, contrastingly, the birth of her second child.
“How Will I Know” starkly contrasts with her bouncy 2007 tune “New Soul,” which earned her global recognition as the soundtrack for Apple’s first generation MacBook Air commercial.
“One thing I learnt during the process of making this record is that if you stop pretending that you are Superman, then people will tell you that they feel the same way as you,” Naim stated in a press release.
Naim will take that message on tour, beginning with headlining dates across Europe that will culminate in her hometown Paris.
