Only in the beginning stages of a blossoming musical career, the 25-year-old talent has already made a name for himself; from playing a stream of intimate gigs including a slot at Lollapalooza, to a second tour across the US and co-signs from Billie Eilish and Katy Perry.
With tours and more new music on the horizon, heartfelt single ‘Diamonds’ is set to become the launching pad to bigger things for Alejandro. Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, he says, “I wanted to write a song about personal battles with self-hate and relay that it’s okay to happy with who you are.” And this empowering message of self-confidence extends far beyond just the single.
The message that ‘Diamonds’ conveys holds a weight that’s much heavier than just a single can bear. It reflects the very purpose of Alejandro’s music as a creative entity; to teach everyone that being yourself is never a bad thing. He says, “ The only message I want the listener to take away is that you can be 100% yourself, and that’s it okay to do so anytime.”
It’s common when in conversation with an up-and-coming artist to feel a sense an uncertainty, especially when it comes to describing their sound. But there seems to be no such doubt when it comes to this rising star.
Influenced by a varied range of artists and genres, Alejandro’s inspiration goes from Bach and Chopin, to Slipknot and Kanye West; touching the soundscapes of Foals, Neil Young and The Prodigy along the way.
With such a wide range of influences, it’s not surprising that his sound developed and grew through experimentation. Delving deep into his current sound, he says, “ My sound has developed through time by experimenting with synthesisers and more distorted soundscapes. I used to write on guitar before I was producing music. Once I got a recording setup and learned how to make things on my own, I naturally wanted to make heavier music.”
The Season 2-runner up of American Idol, gained attention for performing his own original music on the show that was popular for cover songs. Clearly as ambitious as he is talented, Alejandro bucket list for the future reflects his determined personality as he mentions three things; 1.To record with a full orchestra, 2.Play in Spain and 3.Score a soundtrack for a movie.
It really says something about the reach and talent of an artist – a relatively new at that- when their bucket list seems incredibly achievable. And for Alejandro whose, career highlight so far is something as amazing as playing at Lollapalooza, and whose immediate plan for the future is fulfilling his dream of visiting and playing music in the UK for the first time, his bucket list seems all too within his grasp.
So with new music, two sold-out dates in December on his debut UK shows, and with a lot of great things being said about him, it won’t be long before everyone is singing and dancing along to Scarypoolparty songs.
