Teddy Failure is the ultimate coming-of-age mood changer. As comforting as honey to the young adults’ confused wounded hearts driven by the urge to experience everything at the same time. With no regrets. The pair behind it, Teo Runsiö and Frans Torell met while studying a prestigious music course at Stockholm’s Södra Latin School. They’ve quickly discovered that bouncing off each other’s notes and playing around gives them much more joy than anything else. Spinning on life’s ridiculosity, entering stoner mode and unrequited affection, Teddy Failure has just released a guide through all that, a debut EP I’m A Failure Part. 1.
“I’m A failure Part. 1 is our first EP, and it’s a mix of things we like. It was made in the winter in Stockholm so a lot of the songs are about escaping and wanting to be somewhere else”, the duo confide, “We have some love songs too because we are two romantic guys!”
Teo and Frans seem to thrive on the sour-sweet combination of little funked-up alternative pop mixed up with acoustic guitars. Though what really tops it all up are the laid-back, occasionally painfully honest, but always hilarious, lyrics. The outcome? It’s like what we’d imagine the score to a Big Lebowski and Submarine mash up would sound like… So whether they want it or not, Teddy Failure must be a mad success. They’re our new favourite indie anti-hero. The Dude abides.
We talked to Teddy Failure about all music things, from a future studio in the countryside, performing at Lollapalooza to baking cakes. Dig in!
Thank you very much! We started doing I’m A Failure a little over a year ago, and it’s our first time ever doing a whole project. Before we only made one song at a time so this was a big challenge for us. I remember one moment when we thought we had the whole thing finished and then tried listening from front to back and we were like oh no this ain’t close at all… But now we are so happy and proud of the finished EP!!! Also wanna give a huge shout out to Tom Hadar Elde for the beautiful artwork and beach life video!!!
We are two goofy friends trying to make it out alive <3
Making music is a little bit like baking a chocolate cake. It takes some time but it’s funny and sometimes the cake turns out good and then you get to eat it and share it with friends and family! We’ve baked a lot of cakes together now and we really enjoy it! 🙂
Hmm earliest music memories must be when I heard twinkle twinkle little star for the first time as a baby! Could sing that one on repeat for days!
PRETTY NICE FAIL.
Hmm, that’s a hard one. It feels like we switch muse every other week… Last week it was Imogen Heap!
Stankonia – Outkast. Survival – Bob Marley & the Wailers. channel ORANGE – Frank Ocean. Signs of Our Struggle – Mattafix. Välkommen till förorten – The Latin Kings.
So Frans just bought this great GPS thing, that really helps lmao… No, but: work with people you like and make music that you would listen to yourself, not what you think others like!
I hope people feel our music is comforting. Like getting a feeling of not taking stuff too seriously! Have fun and enjoy it, don’t stress too much.
In five years I see us having a studio out in the countryside, maybe a couple of chickens, or do you call them hens? Hmm. I want the ones that give u eggs every now and then!!! I also hope that we are able to do our very own headline tours, that’d be soooo sick.
So we just released our first EP EVER. And right now we are on our way to Germany to open up for 347 Aiden on a couple of shows! Then we are gonna play Lollapalooza in Stockholm this summer, and maybe release some collabs, let’s see… I don’t know about you but I’m feeling summer ’22.
