Even though WERKIN’ FROM HOME can be sweet (as we’ve definitely proven so far) sometimes it’s time to venture out of the comfort zone. Today, we take you on a tour in our first spin-off series, WERKIN’ FROM THE ROAD, where we head on the bus with our favourite creatives to document their road life craziness for us. Buckle up, hold your drinks tight, and get aboard.
If there are names which spring to mind when you think of that oh so powerful crossover between fashion and music, Madison Beer’s would be top of the list. A trailblazer in the pop world and beyond, Madison has been transforming both herself and the industry around her for a decade, and she’s only just getting started.
We last caught up with Madison Beer back in the midst of lockdown, before she’d dropped her now-hit debut studio album Life Support. Since, she’s killed it on a world tour and we fell for her all over again getting to see her dominate the live shows. Of course, what’s a smash hit world tour without an innovative wardrobe to match, so we caught up with the vibrant star to find out all about her super cute closet and how the world of fashion fits into her musical universe…
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion, like music, is another creative tool I use to express myself.
What do you like to express with your style?
A lot of the time, I’m wearing something that’s oversized and comfortable while still feeling put together. My everyday style is easygoing, which makes playing dress up for tour that much more exciting.
What did you want to express through your style on this tour?
A lot of my looks on tour were inspired by the music video for “Reckless,” which drew on a storybook, fairy tale aesthetic. The outfits are super cute and playful, and really fit the vibe of this era of my music.
How do the worlds of fashion and music fit together for you?
Music is storytelling and incorporating fashion into that storytelling can really bring a creative vision to life. When I’m thinking about treatments for my videos or live performances, I’m thinking about what I’m going to wear just as much as I’m thinking about performing, my vocals, and the stage production. These things all go hand in hand.
What are your most coveted closet items?
I’m really into sneakers, so I’m always looking out for unique pairs I don’t own yet.
How do you approach your tour wardrobe?
The aesthetic of every tour differs with the kind of music I’ve been working on, but one thing that will always remain the same is comfort. Performing every night takes a tool on your body so I try to always wear outfits I can move in, and you’ll never see me in heels!
What’s your favourite piece from the tour?
I wear a green and brown babydoll dress for one of the acts on this tour that is my absolute favourite.
What’s next for you?
Definitely more new music and touring. It’s so surreal to get back out on the road to perform these songs I wrote nearly 3 years ago, but it’s been so nice to reconnect with my fans.
