Today comes the release of 2005 NYE EP, brought to us by Model Man, made up of two brothers Mark and Rob Brandon. The duo’s new single ‘Love Surrounds’ has been released alongside the EP, which features a bouncing piano house groove accompanied by a visualiser paying tribute to the now-distant memory of the dancefloor.
Other singles on the EP include previous single ‘Why?’, which was named Pete Tong’s ‘Essential New Tune’ and BBC Introducing Track Of The Week on Radio 1, as well as ‘Soul Catcher’, which highlights Model Man’s ability to deftly juxtapose euphoric moments with melancholy. These sounds draw from their classical training to carve out a new space with a soundscape elevated beyond the samples-only approach dominating dance music today.
“2005 NYE is a fusion of stylistic elements taken from the soundtrack to our upbringing – house and classical piano” says Mark. “It’s a yearning love letter to the live music scene – the memories and feelings of which were strong in the imagination as this was being written”
This summer, Model Man also released a remix of ‘Why?’ by DJ Seinfeld, as well as a remix of Prospa’s ‘Ecstasy (Over & Over)’. Prior to this, the duo released the Beta Songs EP, a six-track collection of refracted, sparkling electronic music, and a selection of remixes for the likes of MJ Cole, Alan Fitzpatrick, Willaris K and Prospa. The band has also performed for the BBC’s Introducing Stage at The Radio 1 Big Weekend. With all this under their belts, we can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
