Genre-blending Nottingham-born rapper HEX delivers slick tracks packed with energy that will make you want to dance, while still covering a range of topics from paranoia to relationships.
Taking influence from rap, R&B, rock and Afrobeats, he started out making music at the young age of 12. He says, “I started out making grime beats. It’s quite different from what I’m doing now. I didn’t plan to start making the more melody-based music I’m making now, it just happened that way.”
From Michael Jackson to his musical family to his friends, everyone has influenced his music in some way. And being from Nottingham, he says, has also impacted the way he makes music. ” If you’re from
Nottingham, and you do music, everyone kind of influenced each other because the place is quite small. But there came a time where I wanted to stand out and do something different from what everyone else in Nottingham was doing music-wise.”
This year ends with the release of a trilogy of videos, but the next year for the up and coming rapper seems like a big one as he gears up to release his mixtape, as well as an album.
