Like a drunken slip in a kebab shop, the chips are down for us all right now. Thank god, then, that alongside the vat of pure misery that 2020 has given us, we’re still being served-up ace pop.
Case in point: ‘Feel Good’, the new release from Aussie singer SAYGRACE. It’s a powerful piece of pop; describing the pain felt when a loved one no longer makes you feel good anymore.
It tackles the belittling way men can act in relationships (“Betcha told people it was all my fault”) and we’re here for that open-book approach to songwriting.
Sonically, it’s a treat. A slick, indie-pop backing fizzes alongside crystal-clear vocals and the kind of pitch-shift touches that you might hear on a Flume track (another member of the down-under massive).
It’s really unashamedly authentic, as per usual with SAYGRACE. Her less than succinctly titled EP The Defining Moments of SayGrace: Girlhood, Fuckboys and Situationships was full of these kinds of moments, so it’s no surprise then that she’s currently totting up hundreds of millions of streams across the globe.
