Don’t let the 'Water Run Dry' for Chelsea Collins’ new track.
Remember 13 Going On 30? Well, this music video is a reinvention of the early 2000s classic. Chelsea Collins’ latest video for ‘Water Run Dry’ envisions the perfect Barbie life before smashing it to pieces with the cutting lyrics of her track.
Collins questions where it all went wrong in her relationship throughout the catchy track with the colourful visuals painting a picture. The doll’s house that she has created in her head contains her and her ‘Ken’, rapper 24kGoldn who collabs on the track, living in the Barbie-like universe. It is undeniably poppy, and the video definitely brings the song to life, immortalising the truth that the fantasy isn’t always all that.
Directed by Roxana Baldovin, the ‘David LaChapelle meets Wes Anderson’ style video is sure to be a smash. The aesthetics and colourway are vibrant and effervescent, with some creepy doll heads added for good measure.
Following the success of her ’07 Britney’ track and vid, pop-maven Collins is honing her craft with every release and this one is certainly not a disappointment. Having grown up in the Bay Area and having been classically trained on the piano, Collins soon turned her head towards production. Her penchant for pop comes across in her music in a considered and specific way, and she has been described as a “non-conformist, pretty-but-different popstar”. Not too bad a label for a 21 year old! Big things to come from this better-than-Barbie soon we’re sure.
