In the lead up to her debut album Saturn Return, due in September, STACEY is teasing us with her latest release ‘D.M.T (Dream. Multicolour. Together)’. The song has a wistful, breezy quality that perfectly complements her lilting vocals. Her exploration into what she calls “psych-pop” was inspired by fellow Canadian duo Babygirl who co-wrote the track: “We let our brains run free with melody and lyrics and of course a love for Beatles-y vibes. I’m a big psych-rock enthusiast, old and new, and was excited to dip my toe into that world.”
The song and the video seem to straddle time and I can’t place them into a specific era and that is what makes them so exciting. The acid-trip flower show that is the video is so colourful it feels like bathing in a rainbow. What makes it even more impressive is that STACEY did it all herself…
With help from her makeup artist, her iPhone and a lockdown-purchased green screen, the entire video was created from home. The collage artist Sara Sema collated the graphics and fashioned this flower-power explosion of art and funky visuals. The result is hypnotic, both the entrancing video and the calmative chorus. If the goal was to enchant us all into anticipating the upcoming album, it has certainly worked.
