The talented multi-dimensional artist and performer from Sacramento, CA brings her unique and truthful perspective to the track, showcasing her duality: a feeling of nostalgia blended with modern and youthful aesthetics.
Monét, who has co-written for Ariana Grande, as well as Fifth Harmony, T.I. and Nas was previously nominated for two Grammys.
“Experience” is part of her upcoming project, Jaguar and blends sounds of Monét’s effortless voice with highly quotable lyrics. She and Khalid collaborate on this track to create perfect harmonies. The song evokes feelings of a blissful summer and being hopeful for “change”.
“We hope the double ended message of this song is heard: based on experience, we want change!” explains Monét. Speaking on the timing of the release, she says “To be honest, we’ve gone back and forth about releasing this song because of the disgusting and confusing state of the world.”
“We’ve always used music as a form of escapism from troubling things. This song, though deep in subject matter, sonically simply feels joyful and celebratory. It’s important to us to highlight and celebrate Black joy and love in the middle of so much pain and trauma.”
“June is Black Music Month. It’s also Pride Month – and even though worldwide celebrations had initially been cancelled for public safety during a health crisis, I, Victoria, feel my queer identity is another important celebration for me.”
‘Experience’ is likely to be a stand out release this summer.
