Have no fear; Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2021 runway show is still here and this time, everyone’s welcome.
Discovering creativity in challenging times has been a driving force for all in 2020, but is it too soon to reflect on the global pandemic’s positive effects in society? Not only have we collectively slowed down enough to noticeably reduce carbon emissions, but we’ve been forced to reconsider our habits as earthly creatures, too. Finding gratitude for the outdoors has given room for many to enjoy the beauty in daily life, during social isolation and in being bound to our domestic environments. Going back to our roots as human beings feels more crucial than ever before.
Burberry is right there with us and leading the way for other fashion houses, having just announced their Spring/Summer 2021 Collection ‘BURBERRY IN NATURE’, to be presented this September 17th 2020 where it all began, in the British outdoors… With a nod to Thomas Burberry himself, whose inspiration came from the beauty in his fresh air surroundings, Burberry is reimagining change and their founding idea 1856 that “clothing should be designed to protect people from the British weather”.
Burberry is transforming the status quo of tirelessly pushing for constant newness, by instead, simply reconnecting with themselves and creating an immersive physical experience to be broadcast digitally and enjoyed by all. Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci said “As humans, we have always had a deep affinity to nature. We have had to respect and rely upon its power for our very existence, whilst marvelling and revelling in its extraordinary beauty. Especially recently, we have all yearned to reconnect again. For this show, I wanted to celebrate these feelings by bringing our community together in a creative experience that takes place within the beautiful, natural landscape of Britain.”
While it may be controversial to rejoice in the changes of our beloved industry due to unforeseeable pressures, the simple idea of runway returning to the natural world where all inspiration first was found feels rejuvenating!
