Beautiful garments shine brightest in simple settings. It’s the rule that creative director and stylist Paco Lampecinado took to heart when working on his newest editorial shoot, FLOWER OF THE UNIVERSE, by Hawaiian photographer Harold Julian.
Paco’s model and muse, Veronica Gebremariam, serves a futuristic colour-bomb fantasy. It’s almost as she’s about to get ready to rock the steamy streets of NYC, drifting from future-forward hippie mindset to sparkly alien glam. All in a split second. From Shuting Qiu’s head-to-toe funky floral get-up, she’s channelling an archetypic neo-romantic woman. Subtle and strong. Qiu’s SS21 bodysuit puts a spin on the most popular summer pattern so it takes a playful and unexpected shape.
Sticking to shapes, Paco also shows off Angel Chen’s extravagant work. The vanguard Chinese designer got international attention for fusing Eastern and Western aesthetics into ecstatic, multi-textured pieces. In the shoot, Veronica transforms into a goddess dressed in a sculptural, pleated gown and, for a changeover, into a sequin-covered, seductive silhouette. Chen’s devilish talent is in the details. No matter if it’s evening wear or a galaxy-themed embroidered two-piece.
“There is a ‘classic modernism’ to the creations of fashion designers Shuting Qiu and Angel Chen,” Paco says. It’s full of finesse yet fun-inducing attitude that Harold Julian managed to capture in the photos. The message here is clear: All aboard, this fashion starship takes off now!
