Mithridatelaunch their AW19 collection

Edgy and sleek, their AW19 collection is an ode to 15th Century England.

If Stevie Nicks was still the same stage-spinning Wiccan warrior she was in the 70s, Mithridate would be her favourite brand.

Founded by Chinese designer Demon Zhang, the brand is named after King Mithridates VI of Pontus, who allegedly attempted suicide by poison but survived due to his immunity to the drug. In the same essence, Mithridate wants to “provide a cure for women who are continually exploring their identity through their clothing.”

The brand has recently launched its AW19 collection, named WAR. Drawing inspiration from English romanticism and the War of the Roses from the 15th Century, Zhang has unveiled a limited line of printed shirts with traditional Chinese embroidery, luxe velvet dresses and coats with unique pearl detailing. There’s also a selection of leather jackets in a plethora of muted pastels.

“I love looking back at history for inspiration, especially at different shapes in garments and bringing them forward to a current time for the modern woman,” Zhang says, “After studying in England I wanted to delve into its history. There is heavy romanticism that is echoed throughout the collection, but brought forward to a modern silhouette, still using traditional techniques such as Chinese embroidery.”

Featuring fabrics sourced from local producers in China, Japan and Europe, the pieces can be found at THE LAB STORE LONDON’s Oxford Street Boutique and online.
