It’s pretty far-out to think that Bad Bunny has never fronted a fashion campaign, especially considering he’s been Spotify’s most-streamed artist for the last two years running. Last year alone, he clocked up 9.1 billion streams, meaning that, by the rule of statistics, you must have listened to him at least once. Or something.
Enough rabbiting on, anyway; Bad Bunny now has landed his first modelling gig thanks to infinitely-chic fashion house Jacquemus, enlisting the reggaeton star for new campaign ‘Le Splash’. Summer and Jacquemus, as we all know, go hand-in-hand like strawberries and cream, or strawberries and cream with more strawberries and cream. From their now-iconic wheat field show to the brand’s eye-popping suits, the French label thinks in rays, flings and butterflies, and their new collection is no different.
Shot in no-filter-needed Miami, the campaign sees Bad Bunny head poolside, temporarily putting down his cocktail to pose. The major look here is a rose-pink Apron Dress, paired with sports socks and blue velvet heels and completed with a deliciously playful bicep flex. Cue the internet-breaking, yadda yadda. Elsewhere, he’s drenching himself with a hose in an acid-green suit, the water turning half of it a darker, martian-green. We don’t have a pool, but we’d quite like him to be our pool boy.
For a pair of pink gingham basketball shorts, Bunny straps into skates, harnessing the roller skating trend (see Bottega Veneta) with a blissed-out, surfs-up pose. There’s also a sizzling hot pink gilet-as-lifejacket and a pair of unzipped (!) green shorts matched with armbands and neon blue goggles. Close-ups show off heart-shaped pendants (attached to his curls) and gold chains, while a final image sees him try to negotiate a bike wearing socks and clutching a blue handbag.
While everything in the campaign might point to Bad Bunny not being the most accomplished swimmer or cyclist, boy is he a natural at the whole modelling thing. We’re so ready to build an entire summer suitcase filled with ‘LE SPLASH’ drip and flip sweet, caramelizing, rings of pineapple on the barbecue while rocking the Apron Dress. We’ll complete the look with a quick jet of water from our bog-standard, B&Q hose – sure, we’d love a pool, but it’s not the same when you’re closer to Mitcham than you are to Miami…
‘LE SPLASH’ will be available soon from Jacquemus.
