Geometry was never my strongpoint at school, it must be said. The cool, steel grip of a compass still sends me into a sweaty mess. Aesthetically, though, shapes are rather beautiful, init?
I’m pleased to report, then, that the new Alex Orso drop – the Geometric [C-01] collection – hasn’t got me perspiring. Instead, it’s a clean-cut, ultra-angular ode to the precision of polygons.
Four different designs are on show, with three plating options for each; choose between 22kt Gold, Rhodium (Silver) or Black Rhodium if you’re feeling somewhat scene. They’re all cast in Sterling Silver to give each pendant a minimal, sharp look.
Craftsmen based in the UK now make the whole Alex Orso range, stamping each piece with the oh-so-pleasing logo. “Moving the manufacturing of our jewellery to the UK feels like an obvious step for the brand – and one to be celebrated,” the same-named founder reveals. “Now more than ever, I feel it is important to support the UK’s small artisanal businesses.”
Hear, hear. We couldn’t be more on board with their commitment. The current situation for many indie creatives is Snakes on a Plane levels of turbulent, and any move to help out is a plus for us.
Like many of its contemporaries, Alex Orso has gone and sacked off a seasonal approach and instead offers five product groupings (Geometric, Found Objects, Components, Textures and Core), tethered to concepts rather than anything meteorological.
With its new native location, seasonless approach and laser-sharp focus on meticulous design, Autumn is shaping up to be a mega one for Alex Orso.
The new Alex Orso Geometric [C-01] collection drops on September 25 online here.
