The Italian streetwear brand teams-up with Tweety, Hello Kitty and Daffy Duck for winterwear gone west.
GCDS’ playful, poppy take on streetwear is always eye-candy for us, so any time they launch a new collection, we legit feel like kids in a sweetshop. Since they revealed their FW21-22 collection back in February, we’ve been counting down the days until it’s released, especially after our cover star Kylie Jenner wore it for the cover of our bespoke zine.
Now, it’s been released alongside a brand new batch of ‘Trip Daily’ imagery, showcasing the brand’s concept of ‘dreamy maximalism’. Shot by Jack Bridgland, it frames the pieces nineties style with – like the best traditional Russian soups – a bit of fish-eye thrown in for good measure. Giant bubbles and GCDS gilded grills complete the set, turning it into a wonderland that’s less ‘Drink Me’, more ‘Smoke Me’.
The brand has enlisted cartoon characters from our (anti) salad days for the collection, drawing on classic Looney Tunes and Hello Kitty iconography. Tweety is chopped up into a Mohair Bodysuit and Faux Fur Beret, Porky Pig is hammed up via wide-leg jeans and Hello Kitty is made even more kitsch, stamped onto after-ski Moon Boots.
If you’re not into your cartoons, don’t fear. There’s tons of other staples pieces on offer, from baby blue Ice Cream Hoodies to colour-blocked Mix Logo Sweaters. Luxury knits feature too, including an ultra-cute pink cardigan and the outrageously gauche Christmas Nostalgia Jumper, finished with alpine illustrations and the brand’s new chain logo.
GCDS has also collaborated with Alcantara for a new range of suits, coats and sweatpants, using the company’s Carbon Neutral suede-like fabric to neat effect. Its composition means it makes for ultra comfy loungewear, ready to languish in beside an open fire when winter properly hits. All in all, cosmic trips and comic trips is a combo we can properly get behind, especially when we can wear Daffy Duck on our hips.
