“Driveway Grey” follows the release of “Grandma’s Driveway - Fence Green", Nigel’s most personal sneaker to date. Nigel played a significant role in the design and creative development of the sneaker, which includes many sentimental touches. The leather shade matches the emerald green fence around his grandmother’s driveway and the leather “Driveway Grey” matches the shade of the concrete where Nigel first fell in love with biking in Queens, NY. The shoe box’s texture replicates the driveway itself and within the packaging includes tissue paper with an image of four-year-old Nigel on his tricycle. Also included in each package of the sneaker, a sticker pack, calling back to how Nigel customized his bikes in childhood.
The sneaker’s campaign visuals, which also serve as Nigel’s directorial debut, were filmed in his grandmother's actual driveway in Queens, and featuring acclaimed "Family Matters" actress Jo Marie Payton portraying Nigel's grandmother. The film pays homage to Nigel's humble beginnings and his close relationship with his grandmother who encouraged his journey to becoming a professional rider.
As part of the campaign Specialized Bikes create all-chrome bike that is inspired by Nigel's childhood obsession with chrome BMX bikes as chrome was one of the most popular BMX colorways in the 90s and remains synonymous with BMX culture.
“Driveway Grey” will be sold exclusively at Footlocker.
