TRAGIC SASHA EXPLORES HEARTBREAK AND COMPARISON ON NEW SINGLE “BILLBOARDS”
Rising singer-songwriter and producer Tragic Sasha returns with her first single of the year, Billboards - a reflective track that delves into the emotional aftermath of a breakup, viewed through the lens of success and comparison. The song is both intimate and expansive, carried by Sasha’s rich, emotive vocals and layered with vibrant, experimental production - a signature of her evolving sound. Billboards has been named BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week in Essex and Cambridgeshire.
Billboards is available now on your streaming service of choice via APOLLO Distribution.
Sparked by the lyric “I thought losing me put you in Hell, but it put you on billboards,” the track is a raw yet polished reflection on watching someone rise after you part ways. With delicate pop production and standout lines like “the best thing I ever did was let you go, the best thing you ever did was take over the world,” Sasha captures the bittersweet complexity of letting go - and what lingers after.
Speaking on how she hopes listeners will connect with the song, Sasha shares; Even though it’s rooted in my personal experience, I think a lot of people know the feeling of ‘winning’ or ‘losing’ a breakup - whether romantic or platonic. The message is that relationships affect people differently, and if you spend too much time comparing your path to someone else's, it can feel like a competition. But really, it’s not about winners or losers - it’s about letting go of that mindset.
Earlier this month, Sasha joined DIY dream-pop band Swiss Portrait on their spring tour, performing in cities across the UK including Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, London, and Glasgow.
Blending bedroom pop, alternative folk, and electronic production, Sasha continues to craft music that is both deeply personal and universally relatable. With major live performances locked in for 2025, she remains a fiercely independent force, proving that pure vision and authenticity can cut through the noise.
More on Tragic Sasha
After a breakout 2024, Tragic Sasha (aka Sasha Gurney) is stepping into 2025 as one of the year’s most exciting independent artists. With praise from BBC Radio 1’s “One to Watch,” BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq (“spellbinding”), and The Line of Best Fit (“talented sod”), she’s built a reputation for sharp storytelling, innovative production, and a distinct visual identity.
Her upcoming releases dive deeper into themes of comparison, nostalgia, and self-worth, wrapped in her newly coined “Dead Hollywood” aesthetic—a tongue-in-cheek take on the pursuit of perfection that’s always just out of reach. “It’s old Hollywood on a £200 budget—all my clothes are from charity shops, and my songs are full of drama and depth, but produced in a tiny bedroom in Essex.”
