Another take on the Boston silhouette, another blow to our bank balance.
We’re putting our foot down: Birks are the ultimate comfort shoe (it’s a close tie, Crocs). No one, not even some sort of omniscient fashion guru can tell us otherwise, mainly because they’d definitely be wearing a pair anyway. If they’re good enough for Kaia, Kate and Kendall, they’re good enough for us, and if you needed any further proof of their dominance, legendary streetwear brand Stussy has just collaborated with the brand for a second time.
Last year saw them design a new version of Birkenstock’s classic Boston Clog, replacing the leather upper with corduroy for ultimate Dad vibes. Now, they’ve had a second go at it, this time covering the shoe in suave, plush suede. Clasped with a single buckle, they’re embossed with the iconic signature scrawl, taking the shoe from shore to street and turning it into an all-round dream. Socks and sandals are totally fine these days, so pair them with a sporty pair, some slacks and an oversized tee for an effortless, this-old-thing outfit. There’s a joke somewhere about wearing the Bostons with Red Sox, but we’ll leave that one to you.
Three colourways are on offer and we recommend you get them all. There’s ‘Dusty Pink’, capturing beach sunsets during the waning months of summer; ‘Bone’, a mineral, neutral tone that’ll match up with everything and anything; and ‘Caramel’, a deep, burnt sugar hue that’ll pair spectacularly with a salty seafoam.
Sure, it’s not going to blow minds design wise, but frankly who cares? We’re so used to wearing our Birks from bed to bath to bus to bar to bed that any new version of them gets us embarrassingly excited, especially when there’s a savvy streetwear twist to them. Just make sure you’re quick, these are going to fly off the shelves like a parrot in a pet shop.
