Shares His Confessions Through a Lonely Heart

By Phoebe Yao

Overall, loneliness is a real, universal emotion that each and every one of us can and will encounter at a certain point in our lives. For Eric Nam, it is a keyword that can be used as the perfect opportunity to self-reflect and potentially connect deeply with others.

Despite constantly meeting people through work, building on a successful career with an extensive amount of network, and following a crazy, full schedule on a daily basis, Eric still frequently finds himself pondering the feeling of being alone, watching from afar as people fall in love and dance in the streets of Paris.

Instead of trying to escape those feelings by packing his schedule over the brim, dwelling on them, or giving in to those experiences to deepen his sadness, he has made the decision to face that discomfort by choosing optimism and adopting a wiser mindset to live a happier life than fixating on the negative.

His new nine-track album, ‘Confessions of a Lonely Heart,’ follows that optimistic philosophy to a T. In our conversation over Zoom, Eric mentions how much he hopes to encourage listeners to step away from phone screens and embrace meaningful social interactions that are right in front of them.

He said that, to him, one of the best things about his job is meeting fans who share stories of friendships made at his shows, which he proudly described as “such a cool thing to be able to say.”
