FACING FORWARD WITHBRYN CHRISTOPHER

by Tori Sharp

Colourful, confident, cool sounds coming from Bryn Christopher.

Facing Forward this week requires looking back to 2015 and the song of the summer – ‘Sweet Lovin’’ by Sigala. The catchy vocals were recorded by this week’s guest Bryn Christopher who is back again with another scorcher.

With over a billion streams to his name and a back catalogue of collaborations and crazy hits, Bryn Christopher’s journey has been slow and steady. He is known by some as UK pop’s secret weapon, having lent his vocal and songwriting capabilities to many a star. If you hear a Brit-pop banger on a warm summer’s day whilst sunbathing in the park, the chances are high that Bryn Christopher will be in the credits.

We can expect to see even bigger things to come from Bryn Christopher in the coming months, releasing what he likes to call “unapologetic pop”. Most recently, he has collab-ed with Cheat Codes and Little Big Town on their new single ‘Never Love Me Again’. His distinctively soulful voice is reminiscent of summer festivals, as his vocal range decorates many a sunny bop.

What do you envision the future of music to look like?

I’m hoping the future of music will be colourful and full of unapologetic pop. There are a few artists releasing this kind of music now and I love it!

“But Britney is potentially why I became an artist. She was my Michael Jackson."

What is one change you’d love to make to the industry?

I would like more A&Rs to be confident in the acts they sign. There are way too many artists that are just either stuck in development stages or have released several singles but no albums. There are so many songs just sitting on shelves that writers have that there is room for more.

If you could collaborate with any musician in the future, who would it be and why?

Britney Spears! I’d like to say someone like Jennifer Hudson or Dame Shirley Bassey as she has the vocals I would love to collaborate with. But Britney is potentially why I became an artist. She was my Michael Jackson. Equally, I would die to work with Max Martin… also I absolutely adore Pink.

Where would be your dream venue to play?

I would probably say the Royal Albert Hall as it’s just such a beautiful venue… It would have to be a very live show though so probably full orchestra and band…

Who are you betting on for future stardom?

I think Becky Hill is incredible! She’s already a star but I think with the right song she’s going to be a legend! Although actually she’s already on her way as I know she is only going to keep delivering bangers! She’s a very talented writer in her own right. Also, I really love Bree Runway… I wrote with her a few years ago and just from one session with her I wanted to be her… when she releases a pop banger, she is going to be a force to be reckoned with!

Where do you hope to be in the next year?

I hope that Britney Spears is free and that I’m writing songs with her and she ends up leaving me on the song, so it becomes a duet…

The next 5 years?

Because mine and Britney’s duet was so successful and has won multiple awards, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Pink and well every one of my favourite artists want to work with me… but I become just too busy and I say “please everybody!!?? I am not an octopus”, so we then have to have a competition for my time (love)… it gets a bit nasty and Rihanna calls me out on my bullshit, and she is crowned the winner. We then go on to write many songs and she leaves me on one and it becomes a duet.
